Smart Box Reading Club was born out of a simple wish: to make reading the most magical, anticipated part of every homeschool family's month. We're parents, educators, and book-lovers — and we built this for you.
It Started with a Rainy Tuesday
In 2020, our founder Margaret was sitting at the kitchen table with her three kids, staring at a pile of worksheets that nobody wanted to touch. She'd been homeschooling for two years and was exhausted from trying to make reading feel exciting.
She tried every subscription box she could find. Some had great books but nothing to go with them. Others had activities but they felt disconnected and generic. None of them truly understood what a homeschool family actually needed.
So she built it herself. She gathered a team of educators, artists, and fellow homeschool moms, and they spent six months designing the box they'd always wished existed. Smart Box Reading Club launched in January 2021 with 47 subscribers.
Today, over 2,500 families open their Smart Box every month — and that rainy Tuesday feels like the best thing that ever happened to us.

Founder & Chief Curator
A former elementary school librarian and homeschool mom of three, Margaret started Smart Box after years of searching for a subscription that truly understood what homeschool families needed.
Dr. Priya Nair
Head of Educational Content
With a PhD in Early Childhood Education and 15 years in the classroom, Priya ensures every activity in our boxes is grounded in research and genuinely effective.
